What Does Embryo Biopsy Involve?

  • By day 5, the embryo reaches the blastocyst stage, where its cells have started specializing.
  • 4-5 cells are extracted from the trophectoderm, the outer layer that will form the placenta.
  • The inner cell mass, which will develop into the fetus, remains untouched, making this method safer and less invasive for future embryo development.

Genetic Analysis and Embryo Monitoring

  • The extracted cells are sent to a specialized laboratory for genetic testing.
  • Meanwhile, the embryo is carefully monitored in the lab to ensure it continues developing until it is ready for transfer.
