Initial Consultation
The process begins with a detailed consultation to review medical history, fertility goals, and the specifics of the egg donation procedure. We address all questions and provide clear guidance to ensure recipients feel confident moving forward. Patients receive personalized advice tailored to their unique circumstances and family-building goals during this session.
Donor Screening and Matching
Donors undergo an extensive screening process, including:
– Medical Evaluations: A review of health history, physical exams, and genetic screening.
– Psychological Assessments: Evaluations to ensure emotional readiness and stability.
– Laboratory Tests: Blood tests to check for infectious diseases, hormonal balance, and karyotype analysis for chromosomal compatibility.
– Background and Lifestyle Review: Donors are assessed for their overall health and lifestyle to ensure suitability.
Recipients are matched with donors based on preferences, physical characteristics, ethnicity, and medical compatibility. Known donors (family members or friends) and anonymous donors from our clinic’s pool are available. Additionally, we work with international egg banks to expand donor options for our patients.
Synchronization of Cycles
To prepare for the transfer, the donor’s and recipient’s cycles are synchronized using hormone medications. This synchronization ensures that the recipient’s uterus is ready to receive the embryo at the optimal time for implantation.
Ovarian Stimulation and Egg Retrieval
Donors receive hormonal treatments to stimulate the production of multiple eggs. Once the eggs are mature:
– Retrieval is performed using an ultrasound-guided needle under sedation.
– The minimally invasive procedure typically lasts 20-30 minutes, with minimal recovery time.
– Donors receive detailed post-procedure care instructions and support to ensure a smooth recovery.
Fertilization and Embryo Transfer
The retrieved eggs are fertilized in the laboratory using sperm from the recipient’s partner or a donor. The highest-quality embryos are selected for transfer to the recipient’s uterus. Additional embryos can be cryopreserved for future use, offering flexibility for subsequent attempts or family expansion.
Post-Procedure Support
Following the transfer, recipients undergo pregnancy testing approximately two weeks later. Our team remains available to provide continuous emotional and medical support, celebrating positive outcomes and offering guidance in case of challenges.
